  • The great story behind this temple is filled with Kshatriya Bravery and Sacrifices. When Zafar Khan wanted to bring down the Somnath Temple, Ruler Chudasma Ra of the Junagadh protected the Somnath Shivalinga from the raiders.
  • Ra's daughter Meenal Devi was also worshipper of Lord Shiva. Knowing to his duties and the devotion of his daughter, to protect the Shivalingaa, the Kshatriyas fought with the bravery and protected the Shivalinga at Somnath.
  • While the war was at the end, Meenal Devi with the help of soldiers took the Shivalinga and brought it to the place which is known in today's time as Ghela Somnath, and erected the Shivalinga at the banks of the river.
  • Also Meenal Devi took samadhi at the top of the hill just in front of the Ghelo River. There is a small temple of Meenal Devi on the opposite hill.
